On June 3, 2026, at approximately 9:03 A.M., police responded to 7XX Jessamine Avenue, St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota. The caller reported that her sister’s boyfriend was refusing to give her sister her phone and choked her the previous night. Upon arrival, police met with the caller, JAG, and her sister, MCAG. Police noted that MCAG was sobbing as they approached. The suspect was identified as DEYEMI LAQARIUS DEAN – [DOB redacted]. MCAG told police that DEAN was intoxicated the previous night because it was his deceased brother’s birthday.
MCAG said DEAN got a text message from another female, which prompted him to want to leave. MCAG took the car keys and hid them to prevent DEAN from driving while intoxicated. MCAG reported that DEAN grabbed her by the neck with one hand, and she felt his thumb press onto her trachea. MCAG said she felt lightheaded, saw blue circles, and had a hard time breathing. MCAG stated that she had to push DEAN off of her and felt bubbles in her throat that she later coughed out. MCAG told police that DEAN strangled her approximately 20 times that night and hit her as well.
MCAG stated that she did not think she lost consciousness while being strangled. MCAG reported losing control of her bladder/bowels and that she threw up in the bathroom. At some point, JAG showed up and witnessed the strangulation. MCAG said DEAN told her that she was lucky JAG saved her before he released MCAG. On the morning of June 3, MCAG went through DEAN’s phone to see who contacted him and changed her own contact in his phone to their child’s mother because she wanted nothing to do with DEAN. MCAG said DEAN discovered the change in contact info then took MCAG’s phone and deleted all of his pictures on her phone.
MCAG reported that she went to grab the phone from DEAN then he grabbed MCAG in an attempt to grab her phone, which caused a small wound on her upper chest. MCAG also showed police bruising on her arms where DEAN grabbed her as she was kicking him off her. MCAG began sobbing again and said DEAN would do something if he came back. JAG told police that MCAG and DEAN argued since 2:00 A.M., and she was in the hallway listening to the argument. At some point, the arguing stopped, and JAG heard MCAG crying then shout, “Get off of me!” JAG opened the bedroom door and saw DEAN on top of MCAG with his hand on her throat strangling her.
JAG reported that DEAN’s left thumb was near the center area of MCAG’s throat. JAG said she rushed in and pushed DEAN off MCAG. JAG told police that while DEAN was strangling MCAG, he said, “It be real killers out here.” After JAG pushed DEAN, DEAN told her that he was glad she pushed him away because he was going to kill MCAG. At approximately 9:00 A.M., JAG said MCAG and DEAN got into another argument about DEAN taking MCAG’s phone, and JAG called 911. Responding officers located DEAN walking on Geranium Avenue.
