On April 25, 2026, at 1934 hours, St. Paul police officers responded to [address omitted], St. Paul, Ramsey County, on a report of a domestic assault. Officers spoke to SMF, [DOB redacted]. She asked officers to stand by while locksmiths changed her locks. She was having them changed due to an incident that started on April 24, 2026. She stated that she was away from home. Her boyfriend, Deante Andre Kennebrew, [DOB redacted], found some texts on SMF’s computer that upset him. He called her and told her not to come home because he was going to beat her and kill her.
She did not come home and stayed with her sister, BGF, [DOB redacted]. On April 25, she and BGF drove to her apartment to get belongings. She saw Kennebrew in the parking lot. He appeared upset. She quickly grabbed belongings, and she and BGF left the area in a vehicle. Near McKnight and Afton, Kennebrew appeared. He was driving a Silver Chevrolet Impala. He accelerated up next to their vehicle, rolled down his window and pointed a handgun at her. She fled the area in her vehicle. Kennebrew pursued but eventually stopped following them.
Police talked to BGF who confirmed that she saw Kennebrew pointing a handgun at SMF. On April 26, 2026, at 0053 hours, officers located the Impala parked outside of 1879 7th Street. There was a KOPS Alert for the vehicle. Officers called Kennebrew and advised him that they were going to tow the vehicle. Officers attempted to persuade him to come out and speak to them. He declined. A search of the vehicle pursuant to warrant did not yield a handgun. On April 27, 2026, officers arrested Kennebrew. In a post-Miranda interview, Kennebrew.
He admitted that he and SMF fought on Friday because he found out she was cheating on him. He said it was verbal. He denied any assault and he denied making threats. He denied pointing a gun at her. He admitted that he followed and pursued her in a vehicle. He realized that what they were doing was dangerous, so he “let her go.” Kennebrew has a prior conviction for Aggravated Robbery in 2014 and a conviction for Carrying a Pistol without a Permit in 2013.
