On June 27, 2025, at approximately 9:46 P.M., Austin Police Department Officers were dispatched to Mayo Clinic Health Systems - Austin Emergency Room on a report of a stabbing. Upon arrival they spoke with Victim A, an adult male, who indicated that his brother, Jesse Dean Kranz, DOB/102584, hereinafter the defendant, had stabbed him with a knife. Victim A stated he left a residence in the 100 block of 2" St. SE, Austin, MN, and encountered the defendant outside. Victim A stated the defendant seemed high and was rambling about money.
He noticed that the defendant had a knife in each hand. He walked away but the defendant followed him, repeatedly slashing at him with the knives. Victim A called a friend to pick him up. The friend was waiting in the 200 block of 2°¢ St. SE. As Victim A approached the car, the defendant was still following him and slashed at him one last time. The knife connected with his right bicep area and his left wrist. Victim A started bleeding heavily and the defendant walked away. Victim A was taken to the hospital in Austin but was transported to St. Mary's in Rochester for surgery, as he could no longer move his hand.
Officers observed a large cut, several inches long on Victim A's right arm. The wrist injury was covered, and the bandage was not removed, but Victim A stated that he could see bone before they covered it up. Officers checked the area where Victim A indicated he was stabbed at. They were unable to locate the defendant, but they found blood in the street and on the boulevard. On July 4, 2025, officers observed the defendant near the front steps of 105 2"¢ St. NE. Officers were aware of the probable cause to arrest the defendant.
They arrested him without incident. He declined to speak to officers.
