On April 12, 2026, Maplewood Police Officers were dispatched to a domestic on the 2400 block of Larpenteur Avenue, Maplewood, County of Ramsey. JR was the 911 caller. She said she received a call from her mother, MDR, who asked her to send police because her mother and mother’s boyfriend were fighting. Officer Stock arrived. MDR answered the apartment door and was asked to step into the hallway. When asked where the suspect was, MDR said he was on the balcony. MDR said he (later identified as EDGAR DARIO DELGADO VAZQUEZ, [DOB redacted]) was drunk, had been drinking all day, and was possibly using drugs.
MDR handed the officer a folded dollar bill with white powder that she said she found in DELGADO VAZQUEZ’s wallet. MDR said DELGADO VAZQUEZ threw her on the couch, and choked on Friday and today. MDR cried and covered her face as she spoke with Officer Stock. With the help of a language line, Officer Stock spoke to DELGADO VAZQUEZ. He denied choking and assaulting MDR. DELGADO VAZQUEZ was handcuffed. While walking through the apartment, he pulled away. He was told to not fight or flee, and was taken to a squad car.
MDR said she has dated DELGADO VAZQUEZ for a year-and-one-half. He has a history of being physically abusive. He controls what she does. He has been drinking, getting mad at everything, and they have been fighting all weekend. On Friday night (August 10th), she went home tired from work. She works two jobs. DELGADO VAZQUEZ questioned why she was tired, and inferred she might be cheating on him. He grabbed her arm and pulled her to the couch. He told her he wanted to have sex, but she said she did not want to because she was tired.
He became angry, said she was mean, and accused her of not loving him. She told him she wanted to go to bed. She stood up to go to her room. He grabbed her by the neck with both of his hands and started choking her. She told him, “I can’t breathe, please let me go,” and he said, no. He became “super mad…” She said she was going to call police. He stopped choking her, grabbed her phone, and said she was not calling police. He told her he was sorry. He kept her phone with him all night. While being choked, MDR said she could not breathe, lost consciousness, saw stars, blacked out, and fell back onto the couch.
She grabbed his hands to try to get them off of her neck. He used his fingers to dig into the top of her hands. On Saturday, April 11th, she went to her mother’s house and told her about the assault. When she returned home, DELGADO VAZQUEZ was angry that she was gone for five hours. He grabbed her by her arm, swung her down onto the couch, and asked if she was with another man. On the morning of April 12th, he told her he wanted to have sex at around 10:00 A.M., and she told him she did not want to.
He grabbed her neck with both hands and started choking her. She told him to stop. When he started choking her, she coold hear him yelling at her, but as she lost consciousness, she saw his mouth move, but could not hear anything. She blacked out and saw stars. MDR said she did not call police earlier on this day because DELGADO VAZQUEZ was always with her and she was afraid. At around 1:50 P.M., he went out onto their balcony, leaving her alone in the apartment. She called her daughter and told her to send police. 2 62-CR-26-2499 Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 4/13/2026 When asked if she thought she was going to die when DELGADO VAZQUEZ choked her, MDR started crying and nodded yes.
