On November 20, 2025, at approximately 10:40 P.M., Trooper Allen was stopped at a traffic light southbound on Highway 15 at Third Street in the City of St. Cloud, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota, when he observed a vehicle northbound on Highway 15 run a red light. Trooper Allen turned to follow the vehicle and pulled behind it, activating his emergency lights, as the vehicle came to a stop in a business parking lot. Trooper Allen approached the driver's side and identified the driver by paper driver's license as Aaron Daunte Wright, [DOB REDACTED], the defendant herein.
Trooper Allen confirmed the address on the paperwork was correct but the defendant said he had just moved. While speaking with the defendant Trooper Allen smelled the odor of alcoholic beverage and marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and observed the defendant was the lone occupant. Trooper Allen also observed multiple blunts and a marijuana cigarette in the vehicle's ash tray. Trooper Allen asked the defendant about alcohol and drug use, which the defendant denied. Trooper Allen observed the defendant's fine motor movements were slow and his speech was slurred.
Trooper Allen instructed the defendant to exit the vehicle to perform field sobriety tests; however, the defendant refused to comply, ultimately driving away. Trooper Allen observed the defendant drive out of the parking lot, through the ditch of Highway 15, proceeding northbound. Trooper Allen returned to his squad car and left the parking lot, pursing the defendant's vehicle with his lights and siren activated. Trooper Allen observed the vehicle had turned off Highway 15 and lost sight of the vehicle.
Trooper Allen was later able to observe on traffic cameras that the defendant had turned off onto County Road 120 and continued to County Road One. Trooper Allen looked for the defendant and the vehicle at the defendant's last known address and also called the defendant; however, he was unable to locate the defendant or the vehicle. A review of the defendant's driving record indicates his driving privileges are revoked. Complainant has reason to believe and does believe that all of the above information is true and correct.
Given the above, a substantial likelihood exists that the defendant will fail to respond to a summons. Additionally, based on the above, the State has public safety concerns. Notably, the above defendant is currently on probation for a driving while intoxicated offense in ••-CR-••-••••. Accordingly, the State is requesting a warrant be issued in this case. The above facts constitute complainant's basis for believing the above named defendant, on or about the 20th day of November, 2025, in the City of St. Cloud, County of Stearns, State of Minnesota, committed the offense(s) described herein.
