On July 29, 2025, law enforcement personnel from the Annandale Police Department responded to the Community Behavioral Health Hospital, hereinafter CBHH, a secure treatment facility in the City of Annandale, Wright County, Minnesota, for an assault in progress. Chief Standafer and Detective Faust arrived at CBHH and located staff members as well as an adult male patient, later identified as Joseph Alan Schleeter [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant. Chief Standafer spoke with a male staff member identified as J. L. J. L. Reported the following: J. L. Heard the alarm and located a female staff member, identified as E. P; It appeared that E. P. Had been punched; J. L. And another staff member were near Defendant, who was assaulting people; J. L. Moved forward to protect the other staff member; Defendant struck J. L. In the face multiple times.
Chief Standafer observed red marks on J. L.'s chin. Detective Faust spoke with E. P., who reported the following: E. P. Was bringing a cart back to the utility room when Defendant approached from the opposite direction; Defendant locked eyes with E. P. And came at her; Defendant punched E. P. With a closed fist above E. P.'s left ear and on her left shoulder; E. P. Put her arms up in defense; The assault was unprovoked. E. P. Had swelling on her ear and was diagnosed with a concussion. Detective Faust also spoke with another male staff member, identified as M. J. M. J. Reported the following: M. J. Heard the alarm, located E. P. And saw E. P. Holding her face; Defendant charged at J. L. And hit J. L. Twice with a closed fist; J. L. Tried to get away from Defendant, but Defendant grabbed J. L.'s shirt; M. J. Approached Defendant and grabbed Defendant; Defendant used a part of his body to strike M. J.'s back; M. J.'s fingers were tingly and his shoulder was sore.
Video footage from CBHH showed Defendant punch E. P. And swing at J. L. Several times.
