Jacob Charles Obrien

On or about January 20, 2026, Mille Lacs Tribal Officers were advised by Dispatch that Crow Wing County had reported a stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on County Road 2 in Onamia, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota. Upon receiving information regarding the vehicle, Officers observed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle. After getting behind the vehicle and confirming the license plate provided by Dispatch, Officers activated their emergency lights in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop.

The vehicle failed to stop. Officers then activated their siren, at which time the vehicle accelerated, reaching speeds of approximately 80 MPH in a posted 55 MPH zone. The vehicle continued to accelerate at speeds between 70-80 MPH in a posted 45 MPH zone. Officers observed the vehicle cross both the fog line and center line on multiple occasions. Officers successfully deployed spike strips on the route of pursuit but were not used to stop the vehicle. The Officers instead successfully used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle on Twilight Road.

Once the vehicle was stopped, Officers conducted a high-risk stop and issued verbal commands for the driver, later identified as JACOB CHARLES O'BRIEN [DOB REDACTED], to exit the vehicle. O'BRIEN complied and was taken into custody. The vehicle was searched and later towed. O'BRIEN was transported to the Mille Lacs County Jail.
