On October 1/ 2025, at 0057 hours, St. Paul police officers responded to 2246 7th Street W, St. Paul, Ramsey County, on a report of a domestic. Officers spoke with SLS, [DOB REDACTED]. She stated that her ex-boyfriend, Toriano L. Beals, [DOB REDACTED], had come over and refused to leave. He threatened to shoot her many times. She said that she did not see a gun, but he is known to carry one in a black and white cross-body bag. He was wearing that bag. When she threatened to call police, he fled around the west side of the building.
Officers found a black and white cross-body bag and a handgun, Hi-Point, which came back as stolen out of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The gun was loaded. In addition, officers located a box of 30 live rounds of ammunition. The bag and the gun were discarded in some bushes around the west side of the building. Officers also located Beals in the area. In a post-Miranda interview, he denied the incident and said that SLS was trying to set him up because she found out that he cheated on her. Officers obtained a sample of DNA from Beals pursuant to search warrant.
The BCA Lab compared swabs from the gun to Beal’s known DNA sample. The BCA report stated that the major male DNA profile recovered from the gun matched Beal’s DNA profile.
