On April 2, 2026, Minneapolis police responded to a theft of jewelry at Joyeria Nupcias Modas Ellas inside Plaza Mexico Shopping Mall on Lake Street in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Victim reported that a black male suspect asked to see a gold chain, then grabbed an entire display case of gold necklaces and fled. Witnesses saw the suspect enter a dark blue Hummer with no license plates and drive southbound on 5th Avenue South. The suspect left behind a new circular saw box, which was photographed and inventoried.
Security footage captured the suspect running to the Hummer. Victims provided an estimate of $8,624.00 loss. Eight (8) gold chains were stolen. Surveillance obtained shows the suspect’s face and clothing. The footage depicts the suspect asking to see the gold chain display that was inside a case. Victim removes the display containing eight (8) gold chains and places it on the counter while still holding it with both hands. The suspect then grabs the cardboard display from her hands and flees the store.
Investigation led to a possible identification of the suspect as ANTHONY LEE WILLIAMS [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, after comparing exterior security footage from the incident with squad and BWC footage from a 03/30/2026 traffic stop involving Defendant and his blue 2007 Hummer H3. Williams' clothing, shoes, hat, physical build, and vehicle including distinctive aftermarket rims, matched those seen in the theft footage. On April 8, 2026, police conducted a sequential photo lineup with Victim where Victim identified Defendant as the suspect.
Defendant is not in custody for this offense and is currently on conditional release for another felony in 27- CR-26-4521 where is in violation of his conditions of release. At this time, the State asks for a warrant to issue for Defendant.
