On March 26, 2026, at 7:53 A.M., Deputy Eichman with the Washington County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a phone call regarding the possible exploitation of a vulnerable adult. Deputy Eichman spoke with L. B., who explained that she recently became Power of Attorney for G. N., a vulnerable adult who has dementia. L. B. Explained that G. N. Had been involved with JAMIE MARIE SMITH, [DOB REDACTED], who has received nearly $100,000 from G. N. Over the last few months. SMITH recently took G. N.'s truck, a 2019 GM Sierra, and has refused to return it, despite multiple requests from G. N. SMITH was provided with a deadline to return the truck to G. N., which she did not comply with.
On March 29, the vehicle was officially entered into the NCIC database as stolen. That morning, SMITH sent a text message to G. N., in which she claimed that she located the vehicle at a tow yard in St. Paul near the hospital. Deputy Eichman made contact with OnStar, which provides stolen vehicle and other emergency services to GM vehicles. OnStar reported that the vehicle was currently located in Hatley, Wisconsin. Officers with the Marathon County Sheriff's Office located the vehicle and SMITH at a residence in Hatley.
SMITH was ultimately arrested and is awaiting extradition in Wisconsin.
