On December 12, 2025, at approximately 2018 hours, Cottage Grove Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence on Ivywood Avenue South for a domestic dispute. Dispatch advised officers that the reporting party advised that his mother tried to stop him from killing himself and he poured hot water on her face. Dispatch could hear a female in the background screaming and saying, "Please help me!" While enroute, dispatch advised officers that the reporting party was saying he does not care if he ends up in jail or dead.
When officers arrived on scene, they met the reporting party, JONATHAN GREGORY KIMBLE PARHAM [DOB REDACTED] at the door. Officers are familiar with Parham from previous contacts. Parham was detained and placed in a squad car. He was evaluated by paramedics when they arrived on the scene and later transported to the Cottage Grove Police Department. Officer Weiss located Parham's mother, hereinafter referred to as "Victim" (an adult female fully identified in police reports) near the kitchen. She said her face was hurting and asked officers if they could stop the pain.
Officer Weiss saw redness on her face, neck and chest. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had earlier observed Parham with a pot of boiling water that he had removed from the stove. She said that Parham was going to kill himself, and she attempted to intervene by trying to take the pot from him. Victim said that Parham then poured the water on her face, chest and arms. After he poured most of the water on her, he poured the rest of it on himself. Medics arrived and began to evaluated Victim. While they were evaluating her, Officer Weiss observed that her left arm began to blister from the burns.
Victim was taken to the hospital. After Parham was cleared by medics and taken to the Cottage Grove Police Department, he was read a Miranda warning and agreed to talk to officers. While asking him questions, Parham told Officer Weiss that he doesn't want to live anymore. He said that he was arguing with his mother earlier that day, and boiled some water on the stove. Parham said that his mom saw what he was doing and tried to stop him. He said that he threw the water on her, and he wished he would have killed himself.
Parham admitted that he has tried to hurt himself in the past. Cottage Grove Police Department officers have been called to the same residence at least ten times in the last few years on reports that Parham was going to hurt himself. Officers were also called to the residence in January of 2019, when Victim [NAME REDACTED] had punched her in the face, conduct that Parham admitted to.
