On March 29, 2026, officers from the Columbia Heights Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Van Buren St NE, city of Columbia Heights, county of Anoka, Minnesota, for a damage to property call. Upon arrival, officers poke to M. L. B., Witness 1 herein, who reported that her son, Jonathan Edward Dickson Bonete [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, was suffering from a mental illness and had not been sleeping. Defendant’s stepfather, M. O., Witness 2 herein, also reported that Defendant had attempted to harm him but he was able to dodge Defendant’s attacks.
While speaking to the witnesses, Defendant returned to the residence. Defendant was instructed to lie on the ground, but Defendant did not comply and appeared agitated. Officers were eventually able to detain Defendant and place him into the back of a squad car. While inside the squad, Defendant became combative and began damaging the interior of the squad door. Due to his behavior, officers decided it was necessary to place Defendant in a WRAP restraint. When Officer M. Alvarez opened the squad door, Defendant spit at him, striking Officer Alvarez’s midsection.
