On August 17, 2025, at approximately 10:50 A.M., officers of the Austin Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the City of Austin, County of Mower, for a report of a domestic assault. The reporting party (Victim A, an adult female) advised that her boyfriend, DUSTIN CHARLES CHENEVERT, DOB/110288, the defendant herein, assaulted her and gave her a black eye. Victim A and the defendant live together and have two children in common. Victim A told dispatch that the defendant left when she called 911. Officer Schuweiler responded to the residence and contacted Victim A. Schuweiler observed that Victim A had a bruised left eye area.
Victim A told the officer that on the previous night, she and the defendant had friends over and were drinking. She stated that she and the defendant got into a relationship argument. She stated that after everyone left, she went to bed. Victim A said that in the morning, the defendant woke her up and demanded that she give him her cell phone. She stated that the defendant accused her of cheating. Victim A told Officer Schuweiler that she tried to ignore him but that is when he physically struck her in the face.
She stated that she was not sure if the defendant hit her with an open hand or a closed fist. Victim A showed Officer Schuweiler where the assault occurred in the home. Victim A also showed the officer that her left hand had bruising. Victim A said the injury occurred when she hit the defendant to get him away from her as he was blocking her exit from where she was standing after he hit her. Schuweiler photographed the injuries to Victim A. Schuweiler observed several bruises to her arm which she advised were caused by the defendant as well.
Officers searched for the defendant but did not locate him. On August 19, 2025, at approximately 10:10 A.M., officers were advised the defendant was at the Department of Corrections (DOC) office located at 109 1st Avenue SE in the City of Austin, County of Mower. The defendant was placed under arrest for the domestic assault and rsa DOC apprehension and detention order. Officer Schuweiler responded and read the defendant the Miranda warning. The defendant stated that he understood the warning and agreed to speak with the officer regarding the incident with Victim A. The defendant stated that he asked Victim A for her cell phone because he suspected she was cheating.
He stated that he went to grab her phone, and she started hitting him. The defendant said that he had to physically restrain Victim A and at one-point, slammed Victim A to the ground. The defendant then restated that they "fell" to the ground. The defendant denied hitting Victim A and stated that he does not know how she got her black eye. The defendant claimed Victim A stabbed him in the back with a broken clothes hanger. Officer Schuweiler took photos of some scrap/scratch marks to defendant's body.
