On 3/3/2026 at about 1600 hours, St. Paul Police responded to a domestic in progress call at 15xx York Ave in St. Paul, Ramsey County. The complainant reported that his son hit him and wanted to kill him. Complainant groaned and then hung up. Upon arrival, police saw that the residence front door was open. An older male, identified as YHV, approached them. YHV was holding his stomach, groaning, and appeared to be in pain. YHV said that his son, later identified as “A Lee VANG” (DOB/1983-08-27), got into an argument about VANG leaving dishes in the basement.
VANG then grabbed YHV from behind, wrapped his right arm around YHV’s neck and put his left arm behind YHV’s head. With YHV now in a chokehold, VANG wrapped his leg around YHV’s legs and continued holding YHV for about 5 minutes. VANG then pushed YHV to the ground and kicked him in the side of the stomach. When YHV got up, VANG pushed him, causing YHV to fall forward and hit the side of a door. YHV got up and contacted police. YHV said he was afraid of VANG because VANG was losing his mind and thought VANG was going to kill him.
VANG, who had been in the basement of the residence, was arrested. During a post-Miranda interview, VANG said he lives at the address with his father and three adult sisters. He said he has a short temper, has angered his father in the past, and his father has called police on him "4 or 5 or maybe 6" times. Last night, he said, he got fed up with his dad "b*******" at him and punched him "5 or 6 times in the face and stomach", and pushed his dad out of his room, which caused his dad to fall. He said he then kicked his dad in the butt.
The Investigator interviewing VANG noted that VANG appeared to show no remorse for his actions. The Investigator was subsequently contacted by YHV’s son, SV, who advised that at about 1900 hours on 3/3/26, YHV was hospitalized at Regions due to the injuries he sustained during the assault. The injuries included a fractured rib on his left side and internal bleeding. SV also said that VANG has a violent history, once stabbed himself in the abdomen, and is abusive to family members. SV expressed concern for the family’s safety because of VANG’s unpredictable behavior and said VANG is not taking his mental health medications.
The Investigator then interviewed YVH at Regions Hospital. YVH said he was in a lot of pain and his doctors told him that he had a lot of internal bleeding near his spleen. YVH said that in the past VANG had threatened to break his legs and had used sticks to assault his sisters. YVH told the Investigator that he loved VANG but wanted him be removed from his house because "in his brain he is not my son" and "one day he's going to kill me, I know.
