On September 1, 2025, Coon Rapids police responded to a report of a theft in progress at Dick's Sporting Goods, "Victim" herein, located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] NW, city of Coon Rapids, county of Anoka. Victim [NAME REDACTED] individuals were in the store, grabbing items without checking sizes or prices and appeared to be preparing to steal the items. Upon law enforcement arrival, officers learned that one of the females, later identified as DARRISHA BEATRICE BROWN [DOB REDACTED], "Defendant" herein, was walking out of the store in possession of merchandise that she had not paid for.
Officers intercepted Defendant in the parking lot and observed she had merchandise stuffed inside her clothing and was also carrying a bag with other merchandise. The items were retrieved during a search incident to arrest and consisted of a Nike hoodie from Victim with a value of $135 and other merchandise from Burlington with a value of $64.97. The merchandise had tin foil wrapped around the security tags. Additional tin foil was located on Defendant's person. Law enforcement tested the effectiveness of the security tag sensors and learned that the presence of tin foil prevented the security alarm from sounding.
