On August 28, 2024, the Fridley Police Department received a report of a dishonored check. S. L. N., the manager of A-Abco Auto Parts, located at [ADDRESS REDACTED] NE, city of Fridley, county of Anoka, "Victim" herein, stated that on March 2, 2024, SHANE LEE OLSON [DOB REDACTED], "Defendant" herein, purchased auto parts and provided a check in the amount of $2,587.48 as payment. The check was payable from a Deerwood Bank account. Victim [NAME REDACTED] information that the account was closed. Victim contacted Defendant by text message and also sent him a certified Notice and Demand for Payment of Dishonored check, but Defendant never made any attempt to pay.
Victim provided law enforcement with copies of text messages with Defendant in which he first asked to exchange the parts and then states he will be able to make a partial payment. Victim sent additional text messages following up for payment but only received a response from an individual claiming to be Defendant's daughter who stated that Defendant had passed away. Law enforcement conducted a search and could not locate any information confirming that Defendant was deceased. Law enforcement obtained a search warrant for the Deerwood Bank account and learned that Defendant had no open account with Deerwood bank on the date that he wrote the check or at any point in 2024. An Accurint search confirmed that the phone number sending the texts to Victim [NAME REDACTED].
