On September 5, 2025, Forest Lake Police Officer spoke with D. J., a known adult, who provides D. J. Services for the American Legion Post in the city of Forest Lake, Washington County, Minnesota. D. J. Reported that he received a check from Jeffrey Allan Benhke, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein for D. J. Services for his wedding. D. J. Said on August 23, 2025, he received a $400 check from Defendant for the balance remaining. D. J. Said he attempted to cash the check and there were insufficient funds to do so.
Defendant also wrote a check to the American Legion for the party hall for his reception in the amount of $1,188.39. The manager of the American Legion was also unable to cash that check due to insufficient funds. Law enforcement attempted contact in person at Defendant's last known address to discuss this situation. Law enforcement was able to speak with Defendant on November 5, 2025. Defendant said he thought the checks had cleared and he has fallen on some hard times and unable to pay his bills.
