On October 30, 2025, law enforcement were conducting targeted surveillance of JERRY DELANEY JR, DEFENDANT herein, after receiving information that he was involved in narcotics and firearm activity. Officers observed DEFENDANT driving his vehicle to the area of 2064 West Broadway in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Officers observed an unidentified male approach DEFENDANT's vehicle and have a brief interaction with DEFENDANT. Based upon officer's training experience, they believed they saw DEFENDANT make a drug deal out of the vehicle.
DEFENDANT then drove to the area of West Broadway and Penn Avenue North where he made a moving violation. Officers conducted a traffic stop. DEFENDANT was the driver and sole occupant. DEFENDANT minimally rolled his window down. Officers gave DEFENDANT multiple commands to roll the window down which he refused, only rolling it down about one inch. While officers tried to speak with DEFENDANT to explain why they were interacting with him, they observed DEFENDANT had a large amount of cash in his wallet.
They could also smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and see suspected pieces of marijuana in the center console. Officers continued to give DEFENDANT commands to exit the vehicle, which DEFENDANT continued to ignore. He verbally argued with officers. During this time, DEFENDANT reached toward the driver's seat and center console area twice. Officers advised DEFENDANT after multiple commands that if he continued to refuse, they would have to break his window. Officers initiated that process, but that finally caused DEFENDANT to exit.
When DEFENDANT did exit, he continued to ignore commands and officers had to struggle with him to handcuff him and place him in the rear of the squad car. After DEFENDANT was finally secured, officers searched DEFENDANT'S vehicle. Officers found a loaded firearm (with one in the chamber) wedged between the driver's seat and the center console area where DEFENDANT had been reaching. There was a large machete under the firearm. Officers also found a total of approximately 125 grams of marijuana in the car.
During a search incident to booking, officers found.72 grams of field-tested positive cocaine in DEFENDANT'S coat pocket. DEFENDANT has a prior felony conviction for 2nd Degree Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (62-CR-09- 8660 - convicted 07/20/10). He has a pending case for prohibited person in possession of a firearm (19HA-CR-24-1478). DEFENDANT posted $50,000 conditional bail in that matter. DEFENDANT is currently in custody.
