On May 4, 2025, Minneapolis Police responded to the report of an assault near the intersection of 25th Street West and Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Upon arriving officers located an individual referred to herein as the victim. The victim was bleeding and appeared to have several fresh cuts and even what appeared to be a puncture wound. The victim [NAME REDACTED] had been walking to his home from a local bar when a black man with a large knife and or sword, began attacking him.
The victim [NAME REDACTED] instrument as a samurai sword. The victim did not know this person and was unsure why this individual attacked him. The victim further described how he fought back and this is what caused the person attacking him to flee. While officers were conducting further investigation into this, they learned that another report had come in that night that had been responded to by other Minneapolis police officers. That report too involved an individual with a knife. The suspect in that call DEON DESHAWN GORDON had actually been found to have a knife with what appeared to be a bloodlike substance on it.
A DNA sample was collected from the victim and was submitted to the Minnesota BCA along with the knife. DNA swabs were then collected from the knife, and those samples were compared with the known sample from the victim. A DNA swab collected from the blade of the knife was determined to have a mixture of DNA from two individuals. That mixture was evaluated and, in a report, dated September 30, 2025, a BCA forensic scientist determined that there was very strong support for the conclusion that the victim's DNA was present on the blade of the knife.
Further investigation was conducted, and this matter was submitted to the Hennepin County Attorney in October of 2025. Requests for additional information were followed up on, and at the time of charging the location of GORDON is unknown. Given the severity of the conduct, a warrant is being requested in this matter.
