Chance Lee Decoteau

On 03/11/26, at approximately 1422 hours, law enforcement were dispatched to the Sanford Urgent Care Clinic due to an assault. A female indicated that her ex-boyfriend had assaulted her. The female was identified to be M. J. C., hereinafter "Victim." The Victim's ex-boyfriend was identified to be CHANCE LEE DECOTEAU [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter "Defendant." They also have a child [NAME REDACTED]. Upon arrival, law enforcement learned that the initial assault had happened four days earlier (03/07/26) at an apartment in Moorhead, Clay County, MN. Victim told law enforcement that she had been staying with the Defendant at an apartment in Moorhead since 03/02/26. Then on 03/07/26 the Defendant hit her with a metal bar attached to a bicycle seat.

The metal bar hit her in the face causing significant pain and bruising on her face. Victim [NAME REDACTED] on her arm from where she tried to stop the metal bar from hitting her face. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had slapped her earlier that morning (03/11/26) which is where the bruising on the left side of her face came from. Victim explained that she walked to the hospital from the apartment and then was transferred to the Sanford ER. Defendant has a prior conviction for misdemeanor Domestic Assault on 09/26/19 in casefile 56CR19188. Defendant also has a misdemeanor Assault conviction on 02/20/18 in casefile 17CR03689. **This is a DV Court case for scheduling purposes.
