Probable Cause
On April 3, 2026 in Apple Valley, Dakota County, Minnesota, an officer responded to a report of theft at a department store. An employee of the store witnessed a man later identified as MATTHEW WADE SORENSON [DOB REDACTED] pushing multiple shopping carts in the parking lot. The shopping carts were filled with merchandise that was not paid for, and the wheels were electronically locked. The employee took pictures and videos of SORENSON loading some of the merchandise into a burgundy Chrysler Town and Country van.
SORENSON left in the vehicle as the employee called the police. A few blocks away, law enforcement apprehended SORENSON in the same vehicle along with piles of cloths with tags still attached. The merchandise stolen is valued at $2,647.75.
