On August 16, 2025, Edina police officers took a past action sexual assault report with victim, [NAME REDACTED], regarding an assault that occurred on August 7, 2025. Victim reported she met up with a man she met online, later identified as Sunjoon Park ([DOB redacted]), herein DEFENDANT, at his home in Edina, Hennepin County, on August 7, 2025. Victim stated DEFENDANT lived with his parents and when she arrived, they went straight to his bedroom. Upon entering the room, Victim [NAME REDACTED] did not want to have sex and would be keeping her clothes on.
Victim [NAME REDACTED] was OK kissing him. The two of them were watching a movie and as they were kissing DEFENDANT became increasingly aggressive. DEFENDANT kept grabbing her dress and attempting to reach up under her skirt towards her underwear. DEFENDANT pulled down the top of her dress – nearly ripping it off. DEFENDANT rolled on top of her, took his clothes off and began rubbing and grinding his penis against her groin area over her underwear initially. DEFENDANT then placed both of his hands on Victim’s neck and held her as he continued to rub his penis against her.
While doing so, DEFENDANT was forcibly restricting her breathing and made it difficult to breathe. Victim then felt DEFENDANT’s penis inside of her vagina. Victim [NAME REDACTED] from him and again told DEFENDANT she didn’t want to have sex. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was not wearing a condom. Victim left DEFENDANT’s home and returned to her own apartment. Shortly after, Victim received a text from DEFENDANT stating, “didn’t expect that to happen, sorry for ruining the night.” Officers spoke with Victim’s friend, Witness, who stated Victim [NAME REDACTED] in a panic right after the assault and stated she had been at DEFENDANT’s home but did not elaborate.
However, Witness stated a couple days later Victim told Witness what happened and that DEFENDANT “choked (her) until she could not breath” and “forced” to have a sexual encounter. Witness stated Victim has really struggled since this assault. DEFENDANT is currently out of custody and therefore a warrant is requested.
