On 10/17/2022 at approximately 1014 hours, White Bear Lake (WBL) Police responded to a motor vehicle theft call at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in WBL, Ramsey County. The vehicle’s owner, DN, said overnight someone forced his gate open and stole three motorcycles and three autos. Included in the list of stolen vehicles was an orange 1977 Chevrolet Corvette Orange (MN/384005) that was parked in a garage, and a 2001 Harley- Davidson motorcycle (MN/22257MH). The value of the Corvette exceeded $5,000 and, upon information and belief, the value of the Harley Davidson motorcycle exceeded $5,000. While checking the area, police found the Harley-Davidson abandoned at Golfview Dr. And Elm Dr. A DNA swab was taken from its hand grips and submitted for analysis.
The BCA later reported that the DNA profile from the hand grips matched the DNA profile of Michael James NASE [DOB REDACTED] in the MN Convicted Offender DNA Database. The BCA report further noted that the same DNA profile - NASE’s profile - had been submitted in a recent Chisago County burglary investigation that occurred on the same day; 10/17/22. In the Chisago County case, at about 1030 hours, Deputies responded to a residential burglary call. A Ring doorbell captured images of the suspect vehicle; an orange 1977 Corvette displaying MN license plate [PLATE REDACTED]. Later that evening, Chisago Deputies responded to a motor vehicle crash involving the same Corvette.
The vehicle was found unoccupied; it was DN’s Corvette that had been stolen earlier that day in WBL. When they searched the vehicle, Chisago Deputies found a debit card belonging to NASE. Pursuant to search warrants, Chisago Deputies collected a DNA swab from the Corvette’s gear shift and a known DNA sample from NASE. The two were submitted for comparison and, according to the BCA, the DNA profile from the Corvette swab matched the known DNA sample from NASE. NASE has at least one active warrant.
