On 1/31/26 at or about 03:20 hours, St. Paul Police responded to a burglar alarm at the Palace Pub (33 7th PL W) in St. Paul, Ramsey County. Responding Officers found that the business had been burglarized. There were chairs turned over, shoe prints on the dining hall chairs, a shoe print on the bar, and bottles of alcohol missing. Then, at about 03:45 hours, St. Paul Police were dispatched to the St. Paul Hotel ([ADDRESS REDACTED]), which is about 1000 feet from the Palace Pub. Security personnel there reported that two male suspects were on CCTV trying to break into the building’s roof access.
When Police arrived, the two suspects unsuccessfully fled on foot. They were both captured after a foot chase and identified as Micah Scott MEYER [DOB REDACTED] and Seth Garrett JANICK [DOB REDACTED]. Hotel CCTV footage showed JANICK and MEYER forcing entry into the building by yanking on a lobby door, defeating the door’s locking mechanism, and damaging the door. Once inside, they proceeded to the roof access point where JANICK tampered with a security camera and then used a crowbar to try to breach a roof access door.
After being unsuccessful, the two went back down the stairwell and exited the building. The two damaged several doors; damage estimates are pending. Both MEYER and JANICK had backpacks. MEYER was found to be in possession of a Black Cat Claw Tool, a Gerber multitool, a Fire Fighter Door opener, a Black Coast Headlamp, a bottle of Southern Comfort, and a bottle of Bacardi Superior. JANICK was found to be in possession of pry bars, a bottle of Bacardi, a bottle of Original Malibu, and two bottles of Bud Light.
Police who reviewed CCTV footage of the burglary at the Palace Pub and immediately recognized the two suspects as JANICK and MEYER. The footage showed JANICK and MEYER walking outside the business, MEYER pulling on a patio door, and the two entering the building. Once inside, JANICK jumped over the bar and the two selected and stole bottles of alcohol. Police also noted that the shoe print on the bar appeared to be the same as the shoe print on the shoes JANICK was wearing when arrested. In a post-Miranda statement, JANICK said he is from Red Wing and that he and friends were in St. Paul to show them around the tunnels.
He admitted that he and MEYER entered the Palace Pub and that the burglar alarm sounded when MEYER opened the door. But, when asked about the alcohol that he and MEYER possessed in their backpacks, JANICK said a friend got it, but he didn't know where it came from. JANICK then disavowed ownership of his backpack. JANICK also admitted entering the St. Paul Hotel and being on its ledge/rooftop, but his story varied when pressed for details. JANICK said his actions were "dumb and irresponsible". After being Mirandized, MEYER said he lives in Red Wing and that he and friends came to downtown Saint Paul where they were “hanging out,” “messing around, [and] doing s*** we shouldn’t have.” MEYER said they were in the tunnels for a while and then he and JANICK were in a bar.
