On May 13, 2025, around 2:19 A.M., officers responded to a shooting call near 27th Street West and Pillsbury Avenue South in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Dispatch notes relayed that multiple people had reported hearing a gunshot and had heard a female screaming that her boyfriend had been shot. Upon arrival, responding officers located an eighteen-year-old male, hereafter “Victim," in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had crashed into a parked vehicle. Victim [NAME REDACTED] from a gunshot to the head.
One witness reported seeing a white, smaller-sized van speeding away after the shooting. Nearby security footage revealed the sound of a gunshot at 2:18 AM then a small, white SUV driving away from the scene 9 seconds later. The officer reviewing this footage believed this vehicle was similar to a Toyota Venza. A young woman on the scene, hereafter “Witness A,” identified Victim [NAME REDACTED] stated she was a passenger in his vehicle at the time of the shooting. Witness A said she and Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the area to pick up food at a restaurant on Lake Street when Victim and the driver of another vehicle, later identified as ABDIRAHMAN YUSUF MOHAMED, Defendant herein, got into a minor dispute in a nearby alley during which Defendant flashed a light toward Victim’s vehicle, and Victim gestured back with his middle finger.
Witness A described Defendant’s vehicle as a small, white SUV- or van-style Toyota. Victim picked up their food then drove north away from the restaurant then turned east on 27th Street West. Near the intersection of 27th and Pillsbury, Victim and Witness A encountered Defendant driving the white Toyota again. Victim and Defendant both rolled down their windows, and Witness A heard Defendant tell Victim, “I’ll kill you,” to which Victim responded, “What…are you talking about?” Witness A then saw Defendant, still seated in the driver’s seat of the Toyota, point a gun at Victim’s head through the open window.
Defendant fired the gun then sped away. Witness A provided police with a detailed physical description of the shooter, including his race, manner of speech, approximate age, and his very distinct teeth. Approximately an hour and a half after the shooting, Minneapolis police located a stolen white Toyota Venza abandoned less than a mile east of the scene. Officers observed the engine was still warm to the touch. The Venza was towed and later processed for forensic evidence. Swabs from the steering wheel, gear shift, and engine start button were found to include a DNA profile that matched Defendant’s known profile.
A fingerprint on the exterior of the driver’s door was also identified as Defendant’s. Investigators obtained cell site location and call detail information for a phone number known to be used by Defendant. The phone was active, making and receiving calls between 2:13 and 2:24 AM on May 13, 2025. Cell tower data placed Defendant’s phone in the area of the murder. In body-worn camera footage from a previous interaction with police, Defendant’s face and teeth are visible. Defendant matched Witness A’s physical description, including the distinct appearance of his teeth.
