On or about 10/19/2025 at about 9:18 pm, Officers with the Champlin Police Department responded to a report of threats to a residence located at the 11000 Block of Pennsylvania Ave in Champlin, Hennepin County, Minnesota. The call notes stated that the suspect, Abdulaziz Ali D Jama Haid [DOB redacted], Defendant herein, had threatened to shoot at and burn down the residence. Upon arrival, Officers spoke to Defendant’s brother who stated that Defendant had sent his family voice messages that day stating he was going to burn down the home and shoot all the family members inside.
Another sibling stated that Defendant had sent their mother several voice notes that included mentions of paying others to burn down the family residence and threatened to shoot and kill everyone inside, including himself. The family stated that Defendant was threatening the family in order to obtain a green card and passport. In the messages he was stating that the family had one day to provide him with his documents before he would burn down the house and kill the entire family. The family was not in possession of these documents and had provided the police with a number of Defendant’s possessions after a previous incident that the officers were aware of.
Police listened to several voice recordings with the family as the family provided translations from Somali to English. "I ask God to witness my statements. If you don't hand me my papers, you guys will see what will happen tonight." "I'm going to tell you another matter; my name is [Defendant]. I only ask God, wherever I go, I find a home and money. Tonight, where I am, I swear to God, I will hand over $800 to somebody and your house will be burned down. Do you understand? Give me papers now. You guys have one day.
I swear to God, I have $800 and I will send you a picture." "I swear to God, it's nothing for me to hand over $800. You see? I even have credit cards. I'm gonna travel; I'm gonna come and shoot you guys all in the head. Or hand me my stuff! Hear me clearly!. The passport and the green card!" "I swear to God, this house is gonna get burned down! I swear to God, I'm gonna burn it down while you guys are sleeping, if you guys don't hand over my papers. I'm gonna send over somebody who does cocaine and drugs; instead of giving him $800, I'll give him $1000. I swear to God, choose one!
Before I burn you guys down while you are sleeping." "Even if I get locked up for 50 years, when I do get out of prison, I'm going to find each one of you guys and burn you guys all down, if you guys won't hand me my papers." "Let's live in dignity, just hand me my papers; otherwise, I swear to God, I will not leave you alone until the day of judgment." "I am not [Defendant] today. I am in a different state. My name is Michael." The Defendant is out of custody on this charge. Given the threats alleged above, the State requests a warrant issue with this complaint for the safety of the victims.
