On October 27, 2025, law enforcement officers were dispatched to the intersection of 62nd Avenue North and Camden Avenue North in Brooklyn Center, Hennepin County, Minnesota, on a report of shots fired. A witness who lived near the intersection reported seeing a small black Sedan parked on the side of the road. A black Escalade then pulled up next to the black Sedan. The witness heard a single gunshot. The black Escalade then drove off at a high rate of speed. The black Sedan then drove off. A discharged cartridge casing was located on the north side of the intersection of Camden Avenue North and 62nd Avenue North.
Law enforcement then spoke to J. S. Who was identified as the victim [NAME REDACTED]. He stated he had gone to his child’s mother’s house who lives at the 6000 block of Camden Avenue North. She was not home but he observed a black Escalade parked at the residence that he had not seen before. He waited outside the residence until his child’s mother returned who is identified as T. B. And she was with another male. J. S. Got into an argument with T. B. About who the male is as he had concerns who T. B. Was bringing around his child.
J. S. Then left the residence with his 5-year-old son still in the vehicle. He drove northbound from the address on Camden and turned around at the intersection of 62nd and Camden. He was parked on the side of the road when the black Escalade pulled up to his vehicle, driven by the male who he saw at T. B.’s residence. The driver rolled down the window and started to use profanity towards J. S. J. S. Then exited his vehicle at which point the male driver stuck his hand out the window and pointed a firearm at J. S. The driver then fired two rounds at J. S. J. S. Was unsure if he got shot.
He was scared for his life and quickly got into his vehicle and drove westbound on 62nd Avenue. His 5-year-old son was in the vehicle. Officers spoke to T. B. About the identity of the suspect male. She was initially resistant to provide information. She eventually obtained an attorney and agreed to meet with officers with her attorney present. She identified the male that was at her residence as BRINAL CHERON JOHNSON [DOB REDACTED]. On October 28, 2025, the suspect vehicle was located abandoned behind a residence in St. Paul.
It was towed and searched pursuant to a search warrant. Identification in JOHNSON’S name was located throughout the vehicle. An officer also located an empty magazine clip for.45 mm ammunition. In the interest of public safety, a WARRANT is requested.
