On May 23, 2026, Minneapolis Police officers were working in full MPD uniform and a marked squad car when, at approximately 1:36 A.M., officers responded to [ADDRESS REDACTED] Southeast in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, for an assault in progress. Prior to arrival, University of Minnesota Police advised they had the suspect in custody. The suspect was later identified as Anthony Tarpeh Jr. Kugmeh ([DOB redacted], hereafter “Defendant”). Upon arrival, officers spoke with witness [NAME REDACTED]L., who stated she and the victim [NAME REDACTED] attempting to ride scooters near the Walnut Street entrance of the bar between approximately 1:00 A.M. And 1:10 A.M. J. L. L. Stated Defendant approached the victim [NAME REDACTED], “Ima f*** your b****,” before throwing several punches that knocked the victim [NAME REDACTED]. J. L. L. Stated Defendant then kicked the victim in the head while he was on the ground.
J. L. L. Stated Defendant’s friends attempted to pull him away and commented that Defendant had gone too far. J. L. L. Further stated Defendant fled northbound on Walnut Street before later returning to the bar. J. L. L. Stated the victim appeared dazed and confused after the assault. Officers also spoke with the victim [NAME REDACTED] was being treated by EMS in an ambulance. The victim [NAME REDACTED] in pain and had blood-like fluid around his mouth and cheek, as well as red markings under his left eye.
Officers observed the victim [NAME REDACTED], struggling to maintain his train of thought, and appearing dazed and confused. The victim stated he remembered a heavy-set Black male approaching him and saying, “I am going to f*** your b****,” before being struck in the jaw. The victim stated he remembered falling to the ground, attempting to get up, and then being knocked back down. The victim [NAME REDACTED] had difficulty remembering exactly what happened. The victim was later transported to Fairview Health and treated for a closed head injury and facial contusion.
Officers also spoke with security staff, who stated a customer alerted him that someone was being “stomped out” on the side of the building. Security stated that when he arrived, he observed the victim lying on the ground unconscious. Defendant was arrested and transported to the Hennepin County Jail. Defendant is currently in custody.
