On November 25, 2025, at approximately 4:45 A.M., a city of Plymouth police officer responded to the report of someone at the reporting party's window knocking or attempting to gain access. The reporting party indicated that she believed it to be her ex-husband, Atanas Trendafilov Hristev [DOB REDACTED]. It should be noted that only one day earlier, the reporting party had filed a report with Champlin Police wanting to let them know about Hristev's spiraling behavior and concerns she had noting that Hristev owned guns.
Upon arriving at the apartment complex located on Quinwood Lane North in Plymouth, Hennepin County, Minnesota, the initial responding officer circled the parking of the apartment complex once while driving their fully marked squad before stopping in front of the reporting party's apartment window. The officer's squad's dash camera was recording at this time. It shows the squad coming to a stop and then shows Hristev, dressed all in black, walking away from the reporting party's window into the parking lot.
As Hristev enter's the camera's view he is clearly seen with a fully extended arm pointing a pistol at the officer. The officer fires and Hristev collapses to the ground, his pistol - later confirmed to be a 9mm Smith and Wesson - falls next to him. Footage then shows Hristev continuing to resist aid/arrest from the ground. After Hristev was finally restrained, and medical aid was able to be provided, responding officers were able to speak with the reporting party. The reporting party explained that she had been sleeping with her child in the apartment when she heard someone at her window.
She believed it to be Hristev, and feared for her life given their history and his prior threats. She called 911. She also explained that she took recordings on her phone from within the apartment prior to law enforcement arriving. She provided those to law enforcement. In those, the shadowed profile of Hristev can be seen outside the reporting party's window. She further explained how she was able to look outside and saw Hristev pacing. She then saw a bright light, which she believes to have been a light from the officer's squad.
She saw Hristev walk toward the parking lot. She said she saw him pull a pistol and point it at the officer. She heard shots, saw Hristev go down to the ground where he appeared to still struggle with police. The reporting party also explained that on prior occasions Hristev has threatened to kill her and told her that if she called police, he would shoot them. He has also told her that if he were to ever kill himself, he would take others with him. The victim expressed having great fear of Hristev.
