On January 7, 2026, Hawley Police Officer P. Skoglund responded to a report of a bomb threat at Lake Agassiz Educational Cooperative in Hawley, Clay County, Minnesota. The caller, I. J., reported that a student had threatened to blow up a staff member or her vehicle. Officer Skoglund made arrived at the school and spoke with I. J., who identified the student as DRAKE ALLYN FOLDEN, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant. I. J. Also identified a witness, [NAME REDACTED], and the victim, [NAME REDACTED] Officer Skoglund spoke with T. A., who is a teacher at the school.
T. A. Reported that at approximately 2:00, Defendant walked in to her classroom and stated, "I'm going to put a bomb in [L. J.]'s car." T. A. Immediately noted the statement in her phone and observed that Defendant was extremely angry. Another witness present in the classroom, M. L., corroborated T. A.'s account of the incident. M. L. Stated that prior to his statement, Defendant had been disciplined for an inappropriate gesture. Both T. A. And M. L. Reported the statement to I. J. Officer Skoglund then spoke with the victim, [NAME REDACTED], over the phone.
L. J. Stated that she had witnessed Defendant be involved in an incident over the lunch hour where one student made an inappropriate gesture towards another student. L. J. Provided a written report of the incident to I. J., which led to Defendant being disciplined. L. J. Reported that she was called to I. J.'s office at approximately 4:00, where she was informed of the threat made by Defendant. Upon hearing about the threat, L. J. Stated that she immediately began crying. She also stated her "heart sank," and that she immediately felt threatened.
L. J. Expressed fear that Defendant was going to retaliate against her. L. J. Also stated that she was worried her home was not safe from Defendant. Officer Skoglund traveled to Defendant's residence and spoke with him regarding the statements. Defendant admitted to making the threat to make a bomb and blow up L. J.'s car. Defendant stated he was upset in the moment and directed the threat towards L. J. Because he believed she was the one who got him in trouble. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn.
