At around 3:15 AM on March 3, 2026, officers were sent to an apartment at [ADDRESS REDACTED], St. Paul, Ramsey County about the theft of money involving a gun. Officers met with DONTAY DWANAL PITT [DOB REDACTED] who said the 911 caller was lying, and, in fact, she had taken his money. Pitt was advised of his constitutional rights, and he agreed to speak to police. Pitt said he met AB [DOB REDACTED] at the Foundry where he worked security. They hit it off and went to Pitt’s apartment to hang out and watch movies.
Pitt feigned falling asleep to see what AB would do. Pitt said he watched AB take $300 from the wallet that he had left in his pants. Pitt confronted AB and asked where his wallet was. AB found the wallet for Pitt. Pitt told AB he was calling police, and she punched his face. Pitt denied laying his hands on AB or owning a gun. Officers did not notice an injury to Pitt’s face. When asked about a handgun magazine, Pitt said it might belong to his brother or nephew. Officers spoke to AB who said she met Pitt at the Foundry.
They left the bar and hung out at Pitt’s apartment. Pitt fell asleep, and he accused AB of taking his money when he woke up. Pitt took $140 from AB’s wallet, and AB called 911. Pitt went into a bedroom, returned with a handgun, and said, “This is how b****** like you get killed.” Pitt waved the gun in front of AB when she was on the phone with dispatch. Pitt put the gun down. AB grabbed the gun, ran to the apartment’s front door, and threw the gun down the hallway. Pitt and AB struggled at the front door, and Pitt retrieved the handgun and threw it into the bedroom.
Officers conducted a protective sweep in Pitt’s apartment. Officers saw an extended magazine on a TV stand in the bedroom. Officers executed a search warrant on Pitt’s apartment. Officers recovered a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun. The handgun had been reported stolen out of St. Paul. On May 20, 2023, Pitt was convicted of felony possession with intent to distribute cocaine in Racine County Circuit Court file 2003CF000085. The conviction makes Pitt ineligible to possess firearms or ammunition.
