On January 9, 2026, Bloomington police officers met with an adult female, Victim, regarding a sexual assault that occurred on the night of January 1, 2026. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was assaulted by her ex-boyfriend at his apartment residence, located on the 8900 block of Newton Avenue South, in Bloomington, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Victim identified her ex-boyfriend as EDWARD KEITH DEMBRY [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter “Defendant.” Victim [NAME REDACTED] in an on/off relationship for approximately 15 years.
Victim stated on January 1, 2026, Defendant asked her for help in renting a vehicle. Victim went to Defendant’s apartment and planned to sleep there. Victim stated she made it very clear to Defendant she did not want to have sex with him or sleep in his bed. Victim [NAME REDACTED], she was on the couch when Defendant approached her, picked her up, and carried her to his bedroom. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was joking around but then Defendant threw her on the bed, got on top of her, and held her down.
Victim told Defendant to stop and tried to get up, but Defendant pushed her back down. Victim noticed Defendant grabbing her wrists and manipulating them, then she saw that he had placed handcuff restraints on her wrists. Defendant then pulled down Victim’s shorts and forcibly penetrated Victim’s vagina with his penis without her consent. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was crying and trying to look away. During this assault, Victim’s hair got caught in the handcuff chain. Victim was able to break free from the handcuffs but also took out a chunk of her hair.
Once free, Victim [NAME REDACTED] from Defendant, but Defendant pinned her down on her stomach. Victim then felt something penetrate her anus and causing her significant pain. Defendant then continued to penetrate her vagina with his penis until he ejaculated. After the assault, Victim tried to leave the apartment, but Defendant grabbed her and escorted her to the couch. Victim [NAME REDACTED] in a ball on the couch as Defendant paced back and forth in the living room. Defendant kept saying he didn’t rape her and started doing a large amount of cocaine.
Defendant then went to the bedroom and came back out holding a handgun and threatening to kill himself. Defendant started calling other people and telling them he’s going to kill himself, then eventually fell asleep. Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Victim stated Defendant usually carries firearms and usually has three handguns underneath his mattress. She showed officers a picture of Defendant holding firearms. Victim [NAME REDACTED] was trying to rent a vehicle so he can go to Chicago, where his sister lives.
Officers confirmed Defendant has a prior conviction for 1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct on May 13, 2016, and is required to register as a Predatory Offender. Defendant’s whereabouts are currently unknown, and he poses a danger to public safety. The State respectfully requests a warrant issue with this complaint.
