On November 18, 2025, the Minneapolis Police Department began investigating a Minnesota Adult Abuse Reporting Center (MAARC) report regarding a resident, Victim herein, being assaulted and threatened with a gun by a fellow resident, SHAWN NEVELLEN ALEXANDER [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein. Both Victim and Defendant are considered vulnerable adults as they both receive Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) through the Department of Human Services (DHS). They both also reside at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Minneapolis, Hennepin County.
The MAARC report indicates that on 10/31/25 at approximately 3:18 pm, Victim called staff to report that Defendant had threatened him with a gun. Staff advised Victim [NAME REDACTED]. When Victim returned to 3553 Clinton at approximately 3:30 pm, Defendant confronted Victim in the main entrance and assaulted him. When staff arrived to intervene, they observed Victim run out of the entrance, bleeding, and Victim [NAME REDACTED] had a gun and promised to shoot him. On 11/21/25 Victim provided a statement to police.
Victim [NAME REDACTED] on 10/31/25 he and Defendant exchanged words at the bus stop and then Defendant attacked him in the vestibule of their apartment complex. Victim [NAME REDACTED] didn't say anything, just attacked him. Victim [NAME REDACTED] attack Defendant dropped a gun and Victim fled. Video was obtained from the apartment vestibule. The video shows Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the vestibule. A gun can be seen in Defendant's hand during the altercation. Victim eventually knocks Defendant to the ground and flees.
Defendant stands up and follows Victim [NAME REDACTED]. Defendant also provided a statement. Defendant stated that he and Victim [NAME REDACTED], and Victim is always getting "verbal" with him. Defendant admitted a gun fell from his pocket during the incident and stated it belonged to someone else in the building. Defendant stated he had the gun to protect himself from Victim. Defendant was convicted of Felony Domestic Assault, a crime of violence, on 6/18/25 in ••-CR-••-•••• and is therefore prohibited from possessing firearms.
Defendant is not in custody.
