At around 11:20 AM on May 25, 2026, officers responded to [ADDRESS REDACTED] East, St. Paul, Ramsey County on a shooting. Officers found YKH [DOB REDACTED] bleeding from a wound to the back of his head and from a gunshot to his thigh near his hip. Officers placed a tourniquet on YKH who was transported to the hospital. Witnesses said the shooter was Mohamed Omar who left in a black Acura SUV. At the hospital, YKH told police he left his semi-trailer parked at [ADDRESS REDACTED] the previous evening.
YKH noticed a black Acura SUV in the parking lot as he left. YKH was checking on the trailer that morning when the shooter angrily approached YKH. The shooter accused YKH of calling police on him, and a small scuffle occurred where the shooter grabbed YKH’s shirt. YKH didn’t know what the shooter was talking about. YKH continued preparing his truck. The shooter went to his Acura SUV, returned with a black handgun, and fired twice. YKH crawled from where he was shot to the side of the road. YKH was unsure whether the injury to his head was from a gunshot wound or from hitting his head.
Officers found two 9mm casings and a phone by YKH’s car and semi. While officers were collecting evidence at the scene MOHAMED ABUELJAWAD OMAR [DOB REDACTED] pulled up in a black Acura. Omar got out of the Acura and went beneath crime scene tape. Omar told officers he was looking for his phone. Officers arrested Omar. Omar was advised of his constitutional rights and agreed to speak to police at the scene. Omar said he was at [ADDRESS REDACTED] East because he dropped his phone there. Omar explained he had a problem with a guy in the parking lot.
The other guy ran up on Omar and they fought for 20 minutes. Omar said the man he fought poisoned him a week ago. Omar left in his Acura. Omar denied seeing anyone with a gun during the incident, and it was news to him that the man he fought with had been shot. Omar agreed to speak to investigators after being advised of his constitutional rights. Omar claimed YKH aggressively approached him in the parking lot threatening to whip Omar’s ass. They fought. Omar got scrapes on his right elbow and right knee from the fight.
The fight ended because Omar and YKH were tired. Omar said he beat YKH’s ass and won the fight. Omar said YKH was still standing when he left in his Acura. Omar admitted he owned a Taurus 9mm handgun and had a permit. Omar didn’t want to talk about the gun’s location, but he later admitted it was in his Acura. Omar denied he had the gun during the fight with YKH. Omar didn’t know if someone else shot YKH or if YKH shot himself. When pressed to be honest, Omar said, “All right, okay, let’s be honest, right.
Okay, we’re going to be honest. I didn’t shoot him – the devil shot him, you know what I mean?” Omar confirmed that it was the devil inside him that shot YKH. Omar said he shot YKH in the leg from a distance of 10 feet. Omar said he didn’t want to kill YKH because YKH had told him he had a daughter. Omar claimed the police were called the other night because he overdosed. Omar thought YKH put something in his drink to make him overdose. Officers did not find a permit to carry for Omar. Officers did not find a report about Omar overdosing.
