On or about 1/25/2026, at approximately 1950 hours, Officers were dispatched to [ADDRESS REDACTED] Bloomington, Hennepin County, Minnesota for domestic assault in progress. Upon arrival, Officers approached the caller, later identified as, Christopher Trevor Balls [DOB REDACTED], defendant hereinafter. Officers discovered that the defendant and his ex-girlfriend- victim hereinafter, were involved in an argument. Officers learned that the argument turned into a physical altercation. During the altercation, Officers discovered the defendant grabbed a knife and the victim [NAME REDACTED] into the bathroom, shutting the door behind her, to get away from the defendant.
The defendant then struck his head against the bathroom door and had "put the knife through the door." Officers observed several holes in the bathroom door. The victim told Officers that the defendant stabbed the door with a knife. The victim [NAME REDACTED] was afraid the defendant would stab her. The defendant told Officers that he left the knife in his sister's apartment, and the knife was inside of his belongings which he left by the front door of a different apartment. The defendant described the knife as normal house knife.
The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to Hennepin County Adult Detention Center. POST MIRANDA INTERVIEW: On 01/26/2026, Officers interviewed the defendant. The defendant stated He and the victim (girlfriend) had been in a heated argument that turned into a mutual physical fight. They were tussling according to him. He was at the apartment to pick up all his property. He got really upset about victim being in a new relationship. He threw a ravioli can at the bedroom window and the side kitchen window from the outside and broke them.
The defendant stated he grabbed a knife from inside the apartment and stabbed the bathroom door 2-3 times while victim [NAME REDACTED] inside the bathroom. He was also banging his head on the door. During this, the defendant said, "I'm going to kill you." He had no intention on killing the victim, [NAME REDACTED] in the heat of the moment. The defendant and victim exchanged some punches while they were fighting, and he believes he may have hit her in the face 1 time while pushing her off him. He was trying to aim for her body when he was punching her.
He originally got the knife out because he knew victim is bigger than him and felt like he might need it. The defendant knew that the victim [NAME REDACTED] in the bathroom together when he was stabbing the door. The defendant is currently in custody.
