On December 23, 2025, Minneapolis Police Department officers responded to a crash at the intersection of Washington Avenue North and 26th Avenue North in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Upon arrival, officers learned that the driver of one of the vehicles was identified as ZACHARIAH RUSTIN BARIBEAU, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter Defendant. In speaking with witnesses, officers further learned that Defendant attempted to make a left turn, crossing the path of oncoming traffic, at the traffic light.
Defendant did not yield to oncoming traffic in the southbound lane and was hit on the passenger side of the vehicle he was driving. The victim, SC, hereinafter Victim [NAME REDACTED] in the front passenger seat of Defendant's vehicle when the impact occurred. As a result of Defendant's failure to yield, Victim [NAME REDACTED] injury per North Memorial Medical Center medical records. Said injuries included a fractured pelvis, fractured ribs, fractured back and a fractured right wrist. Victim also sustained a laceration to his liver as a result of the impact.
Defendant informed officers that he had smoked fentanyl earlier in the day of the incident. Officers obtained a blood sample from Defendant and sent it to the lab for analysis. Results of said analysis revealed fentanyl and methamphetamine present in Defendant's system. Both substances are listed as schedule two narcotics. Defendant is not currently in custody. The State respectfully requests this complaint issue via warrant.
