On 5/28/26 at approximately 12:43 A.M., Metro Transit police officers were dispatched to the 7th Street Garage in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, on a report of a juvenile bus passenger being solicited by an adult male passenger. Upon arrival, officers met with the juvenile, [name withheld — minor] herein. Victim is 13 years old (DOB 8/2013). Victim stated that an adult male had approached him at a bus stop and offered him $20 to perform oral sex on him. Victim [NAME REDACTED] from the male, but the male followed him onto the bus where the male asked another passenger the same thing.
Victim provided a description of the male. Officers relayed the male’s description to the Metro Transit Real Time Information Center (RTIC), who located the male getting off the bus at the Mall of America station and entering a bathroom. Officers responded to the station and detained the male, identified as BOBBY LYNN COLEMAN [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, as he exited a bathroom. Officers asked Defendant what had happened on the bus, and he stated he sat alone and did not talk to anyone or solicit anyone for sex.
Officers learned that Defendant had entered the bathroom wearing a white t-shirt, as Victim [NAME REDACTED], but that he had exited wearing a maroon hoodie with no shirt underneath. Officers then searched the bathroom and located a white t-shirt in the trash. RTIC confirmed that no one other than Defendant had entered or exited the bathroom. Officers conducted a show-up and Victim identified Defendant as the male that had solicited him for oral sex and the t-shirt recovered by officers as the shirt Defendant had been wearing at the time.
Surveillance video shows Victim board a bus at 56th and Chicago. The video shows Victim turn and glance behind him before getting on the bus. Defendant steps into view approximately 15 seconds later and also boards the bus. Upon boarding, Defendant speaks to a female on the bus, but his statement is inaudible. Defendant then sits down and attempts to talk to a male sitting in front of him. The male appears to ignore him, and Defendant falls asleep until he arrives at the Mall of America station. Defendant provided a post-Miranda statement.
Defendant stated he’d drank a half a box of wine between 4 P.M. And 6 P.M. And had little to no memory of the rest of the evening until police placed him under arrest. Defendant is in custody.
