This case involves a law enforcement encounter.
At around 3:50 PM on March 12, 2026, officers were sent to Drazz Liquor at [ADDRESS REDACTED], Maplewood, Ramsey County on an assault. Officers spoke to an employee, KH [DOB REDACTED], who said ANTONIO BROUGHTON [DOB REDACTED] is a regular customer. Broughton was at the front counter and not ready to make his purchases. KH saw customers behind Broughton, and he asked Broughton to step aside so KH could process those customers’ purchases. Broughton became verbally aggressive, yelled at KH, and refused to step aside.
KH then asked Broughton to leave the store for the day. KH told Broughton he could come back when he was calm. KH stepped from behind the counter and gestured Broughton to leave the store. Broughton pulled out a large black knife from his jacket, and he said he was going to bust KH’s shit. Broughton gestured that he was going to stab KH with the knife. KH pulled out his handgun, held it at the side of his leg, and told Broughton to leave the store. Another employee stepped in and guided Broughton out of the store.
Surveillance video confirmed KH’s version of events. Broughton pulled out a knife. KH pulled out a gun and held it at the side of his leg. KH never raised the gun or pointed it at Broughton. Broughton called police and reported that a liquor store employee pointed a gun at him. Officers met Broughton and his wife. Broughton was arrested – he did not have a knife on him. Broughton’s wife refused to let police search her purse for the knife. Broughton was advised of his constitutional rights, and he agreed to speak to police.
He said he was looking around at the register to purchase beer, wine, and cigarettes. KH asked what Broughton what he was looking for, and KH then told Broughton to get the fuck out of the store while pointing a gun at him. Broughton denied he had a knife on him, but he said he sometimes carries a knife. Broughton said he walked out of the store after KH pulled the gun on him. When later told that the video clearly showed he had a knife, Broughton complained KH pulled a gun on him and Broughton wasn’t allowed to defend himself.
Broughton said his wife keeps a knife on her, but he did not have a knife.
