BERKELEY READ LEWIS, [DOB REDACTED], has the following convictions for crimes of violence. He is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition. 49-CR-20-650, Assault 2nd Degree, felony conviction 9/13/2023 62-CR-15-5422, Assault 2nd Degree, felony conviction 1/8/2016 On December 6, 2025, at approximately 4:51 P.M.,, Saint Paul Officers responded to Highway Hotel, 2152 7th Street West, Saint Paul, County of Ramsey, on an assist to Hennepin County to help in apprehending LEWIS. LEWIS also had an active Ramsey County warrant on a Strangulation case, 62-CR-25-8930. Hotel staff told officers LEWIS was presently the renter of room #122. A female staff said LEWIS asked her to call a cab for him approximately fifteen minutes before officers arrived.
Staff said LEWIS was staying in the room alone. Officers went to LEWIS’s motel room, and gave commands for LEWIS to exit. A White male looked out of the back window. As officers were going to leave, LEWIS opened the front motel door. He was told he was going to be arrested. LEWIS reentered the motel room and closed the door. Officers obtained a search warrant for LEWIS and to search the motel room. At approximately 10:32 P.M. Officers breached the bathroom window and deployed pepper balls inside.
Later, the front door of the motel room was breached. LEWIS exited the motel room and was taken into custody. A silver revolver with a green handle was found inside a garbage can in the hotel room. The revolver appeared to be disassembled as the cylinder of the firearm was removed. Inside the trash can, there was an empty soda can that had a metal object that appeared to be the piece that holds the cylinder inside the revolver. A silver cylinder was on the floor. A brown leather gun holster was found in the pile of trash.
RC spoke with Sgt. Cyr. RC said he and LEWIS are friends. He received a call from LEWIS on Thursday night or Friday morning (12/4-12/5th). LEWIS was struggling with his mental health. RC invited LEWIS to “crash” at his house to support him. When LEWIS arrived at his residence, he was clearly struggling. RC called his mother for help. During the call, LEWIS was disrespectful to his mother. RC and LEWIS fought each other. Later, RC was taking a shower when he heard a loud bang. He saw that LEWIS broke a mirror.
RC tried to tell LEWIS it was not a big deal. LEWIS’s behavior became more bizarre. LEWIS asked him whey he was trying to kill him. LEWIS said that the house was full of demons. They spent the day at his house. At around 9:30 P.M., they struggled over a gun LEWIS had. LEWIS fired a round inside the house. He told LEWIS he needed to go somewhere else. They ended up going to the motel on 7th Street in Saint Paul. LEWIS was intoxicated. They fought again. LEWIS tried to force him to throw his phone in the toilet so he could not use it.
