On June, 10, 2026, Maple Grove police were at the Menards parking lot located at 16500 96th Ave N in the City of Maple Grove, Hennepin County MN. While there officers witnessed a male later identified as David Samuel Harris, [DOB REDACTED], Defendant, duck behind a truck. Law enforcement also received a report that the Defendant was pulling on door handles. Defendant was looking around frantically and appeared to be nervous. Defendant pulled his pants down to his thigh. Defendant pulled a holstered pistol out of a tan bag and attempted to attach it to his belt.
Defendant then pulled out an AR15 style rifle from a large duffle bag which had a Cabela's logo on it. Defendant then set the rifle on the ground underneath one of the cars he was between. Defendant had a pistol belt which had extra magazines for a pistol along with the attachment for a pistol holster. Defendant then grabbed the rifle from under the car and put the sling around his neck. Defendant then held the rifle in the low ready position with the buttstock on his shoulder and the muzzle pointing out into the lot.
Defendant then began scanning the lot of Menards and looked like he was going to head to the front doors of the business. Defendant continued to scan the lot rapidly. Defendant put the rifle in the large Cabela's bag and carried that bag along with a smaller tan duffle bag and a black duffle bag east along 96th Avenue. Defendant went to a green Ford Escort bearing MN LIC STR800 and threw the bags inside. Defendant approached someone on the side of 96th Ave, but then ran back to his vehicle once sirens were audible.
Defendant appeared to remove the pistol from his waistband and throw it in a bag in the car. On Defendant's person law enforcement located a loaded AR15 style rifle magazine in his rear left pocket. In the vehicle law enforcement located: - In a Cabela's bag, a tan gun case with a semiautomatic pistol in the holster and an AR15 style rifle. - In a tan duffle bag several loaded rifle and pistol magazines along with more ammunition and a pistol belt. - In a black bag, clothing and toiletry items. In a further search of the vehicle, officers found a Glock magazine in a magazine holster underneath the passenger seat of the car.
In a Carhart bag officers located a tourniquet, shock blankets, rifle magazines, a holster, ammunition, hearing protection and alcohol. Defendant does not have a permit to carry a firearm. In Defendant's front pocket, Defendant had a cigarette pack that contained a suspected controlled substance. The substance weighed 2.9 grams and field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Defendant's parents stated Defendant was at their residence sitting in a lawn chair out front of the house. Defendant does not currently reside at their home.
