On December 13, 2025, officers responded to [ADDRESS REDACTED] in Richfield, Hennepin County, on a report of a possible body being dragged out of an apartment. Upon arrival, officers met with the caller and entered the apartment building where they noted what appeared to be blood splatters on the ground and wall. The caller said that she saw a male carrying a female outside who appeared to be bleeding. The caller explained that the female already appeared dead and she told the male to stop but he continued to leave the building.
Officers followed the apparent blood splatters along the hallway and identified an apartment with what appeared to be blood on the door. Officers made entry and saw a large amount of apparent blood on the carpet and wall in the entry way. Offices located the car that the suspect had left in, which was speeding and ran a red light. The suspect vehicle ultimately stopped at the entrance to the emergency department at Fairview Southdale and the driver was identified as YUSUF ALI SALAT, [DOB REDACTED], “Defendant” herein.
An adult woman, “Victim” herein, was unloaded from the backseat of the vehicle and pronounced dead. Defendant informed officers that Victim [NAME REDACTED]. During Victim’s autopsy, it was learned that Victim suffered one gunshot wound to the back of her left shoulder that traveled through her liver. Officers spoke to other residents of the apartment. Witness 1 stated that he had been asleep when he heard pounding on his door. When Witness 1 opened the door, he said he saw a woman lying on the floor who did not respond to his questions.
Witness 1 reported then hearing a man banging on the window and then dragging the woman up the stairs and “stuffed” her into a vehicle. A Glock 9mm handgun was recovered from the snow outside the balcony of the apartment Defendant shared with Victim. A 9mm magazine was in a trash bag on the balcony and a casing was recovered next to the garbage bag on the balcony. In a cabinet above the refrigerator, officers recovered two packages containing approximately 445.91 grams of field-tested positive marijuana and 440.52 grams of presumed marijuana.
In a kitchen cabinet, officers recovered two packages containing approximately 200 grams of presumed marijuana and 137.70 grams of marijuana. Also in a kitchen cabinet, officers recovered a package containing approximately 71.56 grams of a rock-like substance that field-tested positive for cocaine. Behind the living room couch, officers recovered approximately 75.79 grams of presumed marijuana. Defendant was apprehended and is currently in custody.
