At around 1:50 PM on August 24, 2025, officers went to Lafond Avenue and Kent Street, St. Paul, Ramsey County on a shooting. Officers saw DARRIUS MARVEL HILL [DOB REDACTED] stumbling and then lying down in the street. Hill had a gunshot wound to his left shoulder. Hill said three Black males wearing masks in a silver Pontiac drove by and threatened him. Hill heard two gunshots – the second one hit him. Hill did not know who shot him, and he said he did not know why anyone would try to kill him. Hill wore a crossbody bag.
Medics arrived and cut off Hill’s sweatshirt. Officers found a cable gun lock on the street next to Hill’s sweatshirt. Medics took Hill to the hospital. Surveillance video showed Hill riding a bike on Lafond Avenue near Mackubin Street. Hill dug in his pocket while looking south. Hill jumped off his bike and ran away from a vehicle. Hill ran around a tree and into the yar at [ADDRESS REDACTED]. The vehicle’s driver appeared to fire a handgun at Hill as the vehicle passed. Officers conducted an article search and a canine found a Sig Sauer handgun in a sock next to the steps of [ADDRESS REDACTED]. The handgun was found in the area where Hill fled.
The handgun had been stolen in White Bear Lake. Hill agreed to provide police with a DNA sample. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension examined a swab taken from the Sig Sauer’s handgrips. The handgrips contained a DNA profile interpreted as a mixture from four individuals. Hill is indicated as a contributor to the mixture. The probability of observing the DNA profile is 100 billion times more likely if a mixture from Hill and three unknown, unrelated individuals are the source than if a mixture of four unknown, unrelated individuals are the source.
Hill has 5 prior felony convictions: possession of a firearm with an altered/removed serial number, 2 VOCSL 5s, assault in the second degree, and threats of violence. The drug, assault, and threats of violence convictions make Hill ineligible to possess firearms or ammunition.
