On June 2, 2025, Moorhead Police Department Officer A. Kusske responded to a report of multiple checks being issued without payment rendered at the Menards in Moorhead, located in Clay County, MN, by multiple individuals, including an individual named MIRANDA MARIE RISBERG [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter the Defendant. The complainant, [NAME REDACTED] indicated that this had occurred on five or six occasions in May of 2025. Additional checks of a similar nature were cashed by Shelby Whitt and Shayla Taylor.
During the first incident, the Defendant entered the Menards store on May 28, 2025, and paid for $535.47 in merchandise with a check. On the same day, the Defendant re-entered the store and purchased $792.53 in merchandise with a check. The Defendant did the same on May 29, 2025, this time using a check to purchase $958.58 in merchandise. All three checks bounced. In total, the Defendant cashed checks for $2,286.58. The Defendant was later interviewed at the Cass County Jail, and admitted to writing all three checks after being asked to do so by Shelby Whitt.
The Defendant stated she knew there were not sufficient funds in the account for the checks to be cashed. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE: Pursuant to Minn. Stat. 609.49., intentional failure to appear for duly scheduled court appearances may result in additional criminal charges, and in addition to any arrest warrant that may otherwise be issued by the Court.
