On April 10, 2026, JAJ went to the police department to report sexual assaults that took place from 2016 through 2022 at 3XX Dorland Road, Maplewood, Ramsey County, Minnesota. The complainant, JAJ, her daughter, V1 (YOB: 2009), and the suspect, TIMOTHY JAMES HRBEK – [DOB redacted], were all present at the police department. JAJ said that approximately five years ago, there was an allegation against a school employee at V1’s school. During the investigation, information developed that there was a second suspect who also sexually assaulted V1. On April 10, JAJ reported that she was talking with her landlord/roommate, HRBEK, about V1’s behavior/mental health and made a statement to the effect of, “When I find out who it was (meaning the second assailant), I am going to skin them alive.” JAJ said this because she correlates V1’s mental health struggles with being assaulted.
At that point, JAJ stated that HRBEK made statements about being the second assailant, and said things like, “He would have to stop her from kissing his face,” and, “That she has touched his penis.” JAJ told police that HRBEK denied inserting his penis into V1. V1 told police that from the ages of approximately 5 to 13, HRBEK repeatedly sexually assaulted or inappropriately touched her. V1 said that at about age five, HRBEK asked if she wanted to play a new game, which was HRBEK touching her chest and vagina over her clothing.
V1 reported that behavior continued until she was approximately seven or eight years old, at which point she told him to stop because she did not like it, but V1 said it continued until she was approximately 10 years old. At the age of ten, V1 reported that HRBEK asked her to take her clothing off, which she did, and that HRBEK touched her naked “sensitive areas.” When V1 was approximately 11 years old, she said HRBEK put his naked penis in her mouth. V1 reported that the inappropriate behavior continued until she was approximately 13 years old, at which point she confronted HRBEK, told him he was a bad man, and that she wanted him to stop.
V1 said she knew the behavior was wrong, but she was afraid her family would lose the ability to live at the house. V1 reported that at one point, HRBEK made a comment to her about evicting her family if she told her mom what was happening. Following a Miranda advisory, HRBEK told police that he had sexual contact with V1 on three separate occasions when she was 12 years old, which was five years earlier and when HRBEK was 31 years old. HRBEK said that he is the landlord and roommate to JAJ and V1, and they all live at 3XX Dorland Road in Maplewood.
HRBEK reported that earlier that day, JAJ was talking with him about V1’s poor mental health and that she felt like V1 was protecting someone. At that point, HRBEK said he came clean to JAJ and admitted having sexual contact with V1. HRBEK stated that JAJ was angry and made him come to the police station with them to turn himself in, which he did. HRBEK acknowledged that he likely negatively affected V1’s mental health by having sexual contact with her, and that he knew what he was doing was wrong, especially because he was in a position of power over V1. HRBEK described the following three instances of sexual contact with V1: 1. HRBEK said he and V1 were “roughhousing” and “play wrestling” when V1 “accidentally” touched his penis over his clothes.
