On March 25, 2026, around 12:42am, Anoka PD officers Whiteside and Villordo-Flores responded to a domestic assault at [ADDRESS REDACTED] in the City of Anoka, County of Anoka, MN. The victim, [NAME REDACTED]S., reported that CORY SCOTT WELLSTED [DOB REDACTED], Defendant herein, assaulted her and might be under the influence of drugs. Upon arrival, S. D. S. Told officers that the Defendant had punched her in the head and left with their child. She explained that they were arguing over their relationship and her phone, which escalated into a physical fight.
She stated that the Defendant eventually grabbed her by the throat in the hallway in a choking manner and squeezed her neck. She believed he had attempted to restrict her breathing. He then pushed her down and repeatedly punched her in the head, causing a welt. She had no other visible marks from the incident. S. D. S. Also described several past instances of domestic abuse involving the Defendant and had a bruise from a recent assault. Defendant eventually returned to the residence and gave a vague account of what happened, saying only that there was an argument and that S. D. S. Came at him, without providing further details.
He admitted that he might have pushed her to keep her away from him. Defendant was previously convicted of an HRO violation on 11/20/18 in Sherburne County (71-CR-18- 1645), which is a prior qualified domestic violence-related offense. He also has a pending GMD domestic assault charge involving S. D. S. In file 02-CR-25-3871, scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on 5/13/26. The complaint alleges that Defendant struck S. D. S. And that officers observed bruises and finger marks on her consistent with having been assaulted.
As of the filing of this complaint, the Defendant is in custody at the Anoka County Jail.
