On April 23, 2025, Maplewood Police responded to report of employee theft at Burlington Coat Factory, [ADDRESS REDACTED] E., Maplewood, Ramsey County, MN. Complainant, [NAME REDACTED]S., stated that employee, LEANNE EUGENIA WELLS [DOB REDACTED], stole $5,100 cash from Burlington Coat factory on March 29, 2025 while she was acting as Manager on Duty. WELLS collected all of the cash from the registers, placed it in a bank-style pouches, and concealed it in an unsecured pull out drawer underneath one of the registers instead of the vault in the back office.
As WELLS was leaving, she took the pouches of money from the drawer, concealed them in her jacket, and left the store. WELLS forged the cash accounting log for March 29, 2025, so the cash discrepancy went unnoticed for a period of time until the store conducted their cash reconciliation. An internal AP investigation was conducted and WELLS was identified as the suspect based on reviewed interior surveillance footage.
