On March 13, 2026, at approximately 1:06 A.M. Law enforcement responded to a domestic assault that was happening in a moving vehicle. The caller, hereinafter "Victim", reported that her brother had just hit her in the face. Victim identified her brother as BRUCE JOSEPH LAVERDURE, [DOB REDACTED], hereinafter "Defendant". Law enforcement initially had difficulty locating the vehicle but was ultimately able to locate the parties at Victim's residence in Clay County. Law enforcement spoke with Victim and learned that Victim [NAME REDACTED] at a casino in Fargo, ND, and while traveling home, she told Defendant that he was driving poorly.
The parties had consumed alcohol at the casino and Defendant was speeding up, slowing down, and stopping randomly while driving. While enroute to her home in Moorhead, Defendant became upset and threatened to kill everyone at Victim's house. Defendant then struck Victim in her neck/chest area with a closed fist. Victim then told Defendant that she was going to call 911 and Defendant swatted at her phone. Defendant knocked the phone out of Victim's hand and then he ended the call. Defendant was not at the scene when officers arrived.
Officers observed an injury on Victim's skin that was consistent with her report of being struck. Defendant has two assault convictions out of ND for purposes of enhancement in files 30-2018-CR-00109 and BI-2017-CR-03690. In addition, Defendant has been convicted of the following: Terrorizing and Aggravated Domestic Assault in 2011; Simple Assault in 2011; Terrorizing in 2017; Simple Assault in 2018; 9 Counts of Violating a Protective Order in 2018; and Domestic Assault in 2018. Not a DV Court case.
