On February 3, 2026, at approximately 1100 hours, MPD officers were dispatched to a domestic assault in progress located at [ADDRESS REDACTED], Minneapolis, Hennepin County. Remarks from dispatch stated that a child [NAME REDACTED] was texting 911 to inform them that her mother was being assaulted by her father. Additional remarks included that her mother had a possible injury to her stomach and that her father was choking her mother. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Oliver Basheer Muhammad, [DOB REDACTED] (now referred to as "Defendant"). Defendant initially would not open the door.
Eventually, Defendant opened the door but would not allow officers inside. Officers advised him that someone from inside the house was texting 911 and saying that a domestic assault was occurring. Officers advised Defendant that they needed to speak with his wife. Victim [NAME REDACTED] then came to the door. Victim [NAME REDACTED] had tears in her eyes and appeared upset. Victim [NAME REDACTED] exited the house to speak with an officer away from Defendant. Victim [NAME REDACTED] said at first she shouldn't be saying anything but did mention that they got into an argument.
She said Defendant made a threat that he was going to send people over to "take care of her." Victim [NAME REDACTED] advised that she was scared of Defendant. Victim [NAME REDACTED] confirmed that Defendant was her husband, and that they have been married for one year. They also shared three children in common (ages 16, 15, and 5). Officers observed a 2-liter of olive oil on the ground in front of the door. The olive oil container was damaged, and it appeared as if it had been thrown down the hallway from the kitchen as there was olive oil all of the floor.
The house was also in disarray. Additionally, officers observed objects (paperwork, clothing, various items) all over the floor. Victim [NAME REDACTED] advised that Defendant had done this. Officers took a formal statement from Victim [NAME REDACTED] who stated that her and Defendant got into an argument today that started because she would not have sex with Defendant. The argument escalated from there. Victim [NAME REDACTED] stated Defendant threw her to the floor and then punched her in the stomach and her head.
Once on the ground, Defendant used his forearm against Victim [NAME REDACTED]'s neck and began to strangle her. Victim [NAME REDACTED] stated that while this was happening her husband yelled "We are done now. I'm going to kill you." Victim [NAME REDACTED] estimates that Defendant held his forearm against her throat for 45 seconds. Victim [NAME REDACTED] felt like she could not breathe. Defendant eventually stopped and she was able to get away. Defendant then walked downstairs and began to "tear up" the house.
Officers spoke with Witness [NAME REDACTED] who is the 16-year-old daughter of Victim [NAME REDACTED] and Defendant. Witness [NAME REDACTED] was downstairs when the assault occurred and did not see the assault itself but was able to hear what was going on. Witness [NAME REDACTED] reported she heard her mother screaming "I can't breathe" and her father replying, "I don't care." 2 ••-CR-••-•••• Filed in District Court State of Minnesota 2/4/2026 Defendant is currently in custody at the Hennepin County Jail.
