At approximately 10:18 PM on 1/30/2026, law enforcement received a 911 call from a motorist reporting a black Honda Accord driving erratically westbound on Highway 12 toward Maple Plain. The caller stated the vehicle was swerving, striking guardrails, and appeared to be a danger to other motorists. The vehicle then exited into the Kwik Trip parking lot located at [ADDRESS REDACTED], Maple Plain, Hennepin County, Minnesota, and stopped at fuel pump #13. The caller provided Minnesota license plate [PLATE REDACTED] and described the driver as a lone adult male, Suspect.
Officer 1 arrived and made initial contact with the driver while the vehicle was stationary at the pump. Officer directed Suspect to exit the vehicle. Suspect refused to comply. Officer 2 approached the passenger side to assist. Officers 3 and 4 assisted with attempted removal of Suspect from the vehicle. Suspect gripped the steering wheel tightly and resisted attempts to open the door and remove him. Without warning, Suspect shifted the vehicle into gear and forcefully accelerated forward. Officers were still positioned near the driver’s side door and front quarter panel when the vehicle lurched forward, causing officers to lose balance and be thrown or struck.
Officer 1, herein Victim 1, was knocked backward and struck the back of his head on the ground. Officer 2, herein Victim 2, had his foot, ankle, and leg run over by Suspect’s vehicle. Officer 3, herein Victim 3, was hit by the driver’s door area and thrown to the pavement. Victim 3 suffered abrasions to her calf and hands. The vehicle fled eastbound on Highway 12 from County Road 19. EMS responded to evaluate the injured officers, transporting Victim 1 and Victim 2 to the hospital. Crystal Police Officer, herein Witness, identified Suspect from previous encounters as Matthew Jordan Scudder, herein Defendant.
Victim 3 corroborated the identification through Defendant’s driver’s license photo. Defendant was identified and apprehended during a traffic stop on 2/2/2026. Defendant is currently in custody.
