05/02/2001 who had a bullet hole through his left hand. CARRANZA indicated that he was cleaning his gun in his room at his apartment when he dropped it and when it hit the floor, the gun went off and struck his palm. CARRANZA then indicated that he was not actually in his room, and that he was on the balcony instead. When law enforcement went to CARRANZA’s apartment, they spoke with CARRANZA’s mother who indicated that no gunshots happened in her apartment that evening. After reviewing the security cameras at the hospital it was determined that Sebastian Rodriguez dropped CARRANZA at the hospital in a red Chevy Avalanche.
After reviewing local records, Officer Heck went to 1002 4th St SW in Willmar, Kandiyohi County, and observed the red Chevy Avalanche. When Officer Heck arrived he observed a male individual near the truck with a hose, soapy water, and a broom and it appeared that the individual was outside washing something. While Officer Heck was speaking to Rodriquez, other officers observed a large amount of blood on the red Chevy Avalanche as well as a trail of blood leading from the back door of the residence towards the driveway and along the sidewalk.
Later on, Rodriguez was interviewed, and at that time he indicated that CARRANZA came to his house, and he had recently purchased a Glock 30.45 caliber handgun and he showed CARRANZA the firearm. Rodriquez said that when he handed CARRANZA the firearm, it was unloaded and he also handed CARRANZA a separate magazine with bullets in it. Rodriguez said he then bent over and was doing something while standing next to CARRANZA and he heard the gun’s slide rack on the handgun and then heard a gunshot go off, at which time he saw that CARRANZA was shot in the hand and bleeding.
While searching the house, Det. Arredondo observed an apparent bullet hole in the left wall of the stairway and another entrance hole in the kitchen wall. Based on his observations, Det. Arredondo concluded that the initial entrance hole was in the east wall of the kitchen, it exited the wall (right side of the stairway), re- entered the left side wall at the stairway, and exited through the left side stairway wall and enters the living room where there was an apparent exit hole.
